OOOOOOOOppppps!!!
I accidentally overwrote your "recent additions" template while I was creating a new one. I can't revert it to the previous version, but you probably can. Sorry. --J-Walk 08:32, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- Yes, you can. Any registered user can. Go the the template, [Template:Recent additions]], click 'History', click on the date of the version you want to revert to. When that window opens, click 'Edit' link. The next window has some warning about editing a non-current version. Ignore that, and click 'Save page'. Walah (or however that's spelled).
- As a sysop you can use 'Rollback' in the 'Recent changes' list to revert back one version. This is easier. Template:Emot smile Sparkit 08:48, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- Thanks. That's good to know. --J-Walk 08:50, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- Wait! The rollback link is gone. Maybe the HMFIC took that toy away. Sparkit 08:53, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- Um, I didn't take away rollback purposesly or that I know of???? Something weird happened to me a few days ago. I discovered that if you are the only one who worked on an article, it gives a weird message saying "You can't rollback" if you try to. Found that I had to compare versions and click on the link for the old version which brought it up in the standard edit screen. Did a copy/paste into the current screen. It scared bejeebers out of me cuz I accidentally deleted and entire page and couldn't roll it back. Just FYI in case this helps in what you two are discussing. Jimbob 12:23, 21 March 2006 (AKST)

zben flailing around in the wiki
Have created pages on posting pictures in the chat and on macintosh. Would like to open conversation/ideabase/brainstorm on faq/help structure. Have posted posting pictures in the chat page to category chat. Still wondering where to post macintosh page, andor what we can do to make faq/help more visible/usable. zben 10:23, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
I'm hoping you can help him. I'm not watching the overall structure of help / FAQ right now as I'm off in my own little world of integrating WWR databases into the new site. Sorry to put on you but I think you're probably most qualified. Thanks. Jimbob 12:23, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- Jimbob asked me to pick up the ball on this...
- ... he's lost in programming land and another distracting project. It's the nature of wikis that anyone can take the lead on a project like stucturing FAQs and Help. They also tend to seem chaotic. Would you like to take the lead on some of this? Sparkit 14:01, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- OK, there's a help page at http://wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/Help:Contents but it's very low level in that the topics are just listed alphabetically without any infrastructure.
- I changed that again, to be mostly pages about the site. I copied the topics from wikimedia. Mediawiki, the writers of this software, do not provide documentation. At this time, IMO, the listening and chatting help pages do not belong there. As those features are added to version 4, perhaps I'll change my mind. Maybe some index pages for now.
- Do I throw in Macintosh there? Do I throw in Platforms page? What about the posting pictures? According to the category list that's down in chat:chat input or something like that. Do you see my question about infrastructure?
- What you have written on the Mac page, IMO, fits in the Listening category. When information about browsers and their interacting with the Listener Console is added, I would put it in the Chatting category. I would also rename it "Using Macintosh with WWR", and make the "Macintosh" article descriptive of just the OSs.
- Platforms, as written, I would categorize as Category:Technical glossary
- Great. http://wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/Listener_Console#Chat_Input_frame does not link to http://wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/Chat_input - we've already got dueling helps... zben 19:06, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- I do understand. I am bleary-eyed and foggy. More thoughts in the morning. Sparkit 19:27, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- The wiki way when finding pages that you think should be linked, is to go ahead and link them.
- Jimbob has cautioned not to write too much about the existing Listener Console type of stuff, as he expects it to change. However, audio players and the like will not change, nor will the history stuff we have her, or stuff like Interests. Template:Emot Thanks Sparkit 04:45, 22 March 2006 (AKST)
Emoticon heads up
Quick heads up ... went to the outhouse and had a brainstorm. Don't import any more emoticon images (i.e. old WWR style ::emoticons). I just thought of a way to have access to them all, using the old names, by creating a new tag something like
- Oh my goddess! That'll be fun, eh? A nice draw to the site though. Sparkit 12:53, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- It's the beginning of the end. There goes the nice, clean, plain look of this site.
ROTFL Um, it's not a HUGE deal in replacing the old templates, but it'd be good if we go this method and phase out the template method. If you don't get to it on the wiki editing help page so we don't confuse people, then I will some time. It really pisses me off that I have to do 'real' work when I'm so excited to be doing this stuff. Otherwise, I'd go through the entire system and change everything to the new tags.fun Jimbob 13:11, 21 March 2006 (AKST)
- It's the beginning of the end. There goes the nice, clean, plain look of this site.
- Will do what I can. I know what you mean. Also will try to get :-) and stuff to work without having to use emoticon tags. May be awhile. Supposed to be doing 'real' work and E is glaring at me.

monobook.js
Saw you messing with that way back when (what, 4-5 days ago? hehehe) and didn't know what that stuff was yet. Oddly enough, the guy who wrote that Lupin javascript plugin responded to a question of mine over at the Pump. So I went to his page and now understand what the thing is with monobook.js and why you'd want to use it. I enabled being able to use javascript here ... although not entirely sure I like the idea since a malicious script could do lots of bad stuff ... and since I'm not watching security all the time, it'd be awhile before I ever caught on. But for now, if you want to try it, go ahead.
Only problem is, it didn't work for me. Kept getting javascript errors in line 60. Dunno. I had it hooked in just like you do, and it worked just fine over on the mothership Wikipedia. I'm not a big fan of javascript so I'm not gonna debug it. If it works for you though, let me know. Oh, I'm usually using IE on Windows and didn't even try another browser. Good luck!
- Ummmm. A couple things come to mind. I'm a novice at javascript, but a journeyman tester. I'll put it on my todo list. Sparkit 07:55, 22 March 2006 (AKST)
Old Site stuff
Sparkit, I noticed that you started the "Old Site" template to the explaintion of pages in the old site. I am wondering if that means spending a lot of time detailing things out like the Advanced Console is probably not worth it right now? I just want make sure I am spending my time in the right places. Thanks DogNut 03:44, 22 March 2006 (AKST)
- Hi DogNut! Thanks for asking. That is exactly why I'm flagging them. Jimbob has cautioned about documenting the old site. Perhaps becuse he expects to have it all in her soon. My sense is that we'll have all or most of the features, but the interface will be different. I'm also hoping to alleviate some confusion by distinguishing between version 2 (old) and version 4 (new). I wouldn't spend too much time on the Advanced Console.Sparkit 03:53, 22 March 2006 (AKST)
Pandora
I sometimes listen to pandora.com. They have the ability to put your favorites on your webpage (similar to last.fm). However, it is only in JavaScript. I was just wondering if that was even possible here. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post the question.
This is the code generated…

- Hi Kelli! I like your user page. Persia was beautiful.
- My talk page is open for any questions. I don't know the answer to this one though. I'll post it on The Mill page and see if anyone else knows. Sparkit 10:05, 23 March 2006 (AKST)
Mediawiki help pages
No biggie, but I was wondering about the convolution you mentioned in hello on their help pages. I was disappointed when I first put in the system that basic help wasn't there. Then you came along, an angel. You created better help pages that were tailored to this system and to our users. So although we definitely need to have some links to detailed help pages, I was wondering if we wanted to include the whole things when we were writing simplified ones anyway? Not sure. Just didn't want you to think that we had to include detailed help pages everywhere ... if it's easier to just put links to their pages, then maybe that's an option? Sorry not being very clear - just woke up. Trying to give you an out if making 'importing' their help pages and getting rid of their customizations is a big pain in the butt. I'll shut up now.
- [
i am ranting ] The convolution is in that that are badly written and edited by geeks for geeks, not users. (Have I mentioned that I've done a fair amount of documentation? And there's a whole ego thing about presenting understandable info.) It includes tons of geeky stuff that would scare the shit out of many Wheatheads. Like imagine someone landing on Special:Allmessages, and wondering if they need to know all that shit? It's filled with useless comments. Pretty standard open source documentation, though.
- Frankly as much as I'm editing these pages, I'm tempted to suggest dropping the GNU thing. [end
i am ranting ] (note to self: add this to User:Sparkit/Rants
- My intent is to start with some pages on the basics (prefs, logon, basic editing) and fill in the stubs with URLs, then fill in as needed later. The Editing basics, prefs and something about tables may be all we need'. I won't spend much more time with it because it's pissing me off. Sparkit 11:33, 23 March 2006 (AKST)
Chat test in the sandbox
User:Jimkloss/sandbox/chat ... just a test. If you're still here, come over and give it a shot. I've gotta go downstairs for a few minutes but will show up there sometime. Even if I don't, give it a shot. It should understand wiki formatting but haven't tested that much. Jimbob 18:02, 23 March 2006 (AKST)
New: page deletion requests page
We now have a Page deletion requests page for users to request deletion of pages, and admins to watch for deletion requests. We'll probably get most of the requests in the chats, but it's an alternative. Also an Category:Admin for that sort of bureaucratic BS.
New Infobox design
That looks good to me. I prefer the no-border look and the colors are perfect. The font size for the title might be just a tad too large, but that's just me. It may look different on your Mac. --J-Walk 12:18, 24 March 2006 (AKST)
What You've Accomplished
I have to hand it to you, Sparky. The amount of work you've done here, and what you've accomplished, is amazing. Obviously, a wiki is a group endeavor, but you have really made your mark on this website (and all for the better). Cudos to you! --Toad 18:57, 24 March 2006 (AKST)
349 Many thanks, Toad. It's been a blast. Working with fun and smart people, and pulling together my many spheres of experience... Well, it's just been incredible. A girl couldn't ask for anything better. Sparkit 06:23, 25 March 2006 (AKST)
