I discovered WWR in early 2005 after picking up a copy of The Appalachian Voice at the offices of WildSouth. There was an ad in there for internet radio station hober.com. I listened for a while; it was ok. Then I googled for internet radio and found Whole Wheat Radio and it was much more to my liking. A listener called Cigar Box Guitars caught my attention. After checking out his website (http://cigarboxguitars.com), I got interested in building Cigar Box Guitars and now I spend all my free time in the shop making them.

Here are some pics of cigar box guitars that I have made.

  • CBG3 is a three-stringer made with a Fuente box and an ash neck. It has two handwound pickups. It is not fretted.
  • CBG4 has four strings and is fretted with a cocobolo fingerboard and a Macanudo box. It also has two handwound pickups.
  • CBG6 has a curly maple neck with a scarf joint (angled neck) with a cocobolo fingerboard and purpleheart accents on the headplate and heel plate. It uses a Gloria Cubana box. It will have 4 strings and two pickups when complete.

You can learn more about Cigar Box Guitars here, a site maintained by Wheathead Cigar Box Guitars.
