What antivirus and spyware software do you like the best?

Avast has caught my attention lately. I have a friend who has run AVG on infected computers with limited results. He says that he is now using Avast, and it cleans up the viruses, etc, on his friend's computers, much better than AVG and often solves the slowness problem. As for me, I run way too many of these type of programs; and, I would like to simplify. On the main computer, I have Norton, Ad aware, and Spybot. (and, shamefully, I now have SpinRite.) I must need to simplify and keep the best. On Dad and hubby's computers, I currently have Avg and Spybot.Sharpston (talk/contribs) 14:34, October 11, 2008 (AKDT)

AVG 8.0 gets my vote. It's on all my machine bar one but that'll be getting it now that the NAV that came with it has expired. Big Tom (talk/contribs) 11:05, October 9, 2008 (AKDT)

I like Avast! Scobey (talk/contribs) 10:16, October 9, 2008 (AKDT)

I utilize both Norton Antivirus (NAV) and AVG on my home PCs. (I was able to download NAV for free through my ISP.) While Norton clearly has more "bells and whistles," over the last few years, AVG identified a few potential threats that Norton did not. That said, AVG gets my vote. So far I like AVG the best also. I run its spyware detector too. Cater (talk/contribs) 08:10, October 9, 2008 (AKDT)

Antivirus = AVG - I think it may be considered the "industry standard" (certainly the "freeware geek standard") as more and more people run it. Latest version begins to show that they may have other plans for taking it fully commercial / bloatware, but it's still lean and stable at this point. I don't run spyware detectors so no opinion there.
