What is a Sysop
Someone who is trusted to administer and maintain the Whole Wheat Radio wiki beyond 'normal' user levels. Sysops don't have to be wiki experts but they do have to be careful with their added power and spend a fair amount of time around WWR to know what's going on in the daily mix. Sysop Powers
Sysops can:
- Protect and unprotect pages so that only sysops can change them. Examples: Main page, chats and a few others are protected.
- Delete pages and undelete pages
- Block and unblock user - the wiki block blocks the user from editing pages. Usually depending on the offense i.e. spamming in chat, the expiry time is set to infinite
- Mark pages as patrolled
- Revert and rollback pages - Actually any user can revert pages, but only sysops see a rollback link on some pages.

Reasons to block a user are: spamming in chat, abusive language and behavior in chat, vandalism on the site. Spammers and vandals usually are shown no mercy and cut off at the quick.
Blocking wiki users using the procedure below prevents them from editing/changing pages, but does not prevent them from from accessing the website or chat. Blocking people from the site and chat is done at the Apache level of the web server.
How to block:
If you have Sysop powers you will see in the lefthand menu on any user page a link: Block User. In the case of spammers in chat, take this link:http://www.wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/User: and add after User: the IP address of the User/Spamer you wish to block. The IP adress is recorded by any Anonymous user and listed in chat of the User/Spammer. When clicking to a page in the case of an IP address the page says Edit this page -or- there is no page that exists, there will still be a link down the lefthand menu that says: Block User. Click and you will be taken to a page. Enter the User or IP address of who you are blocking. Set the time, and put down a reason. Click and you are done. They are blocked.

Who Is a Sysop
If you wish to know who are the Sysops on this site go to the User List. At the top left, under Group Name there are three choices: bot, sysop, bureaucrat. Choose Sysop, click go and you will be shown a list of users who are Sysops.
