Released in 1977, this is one of Brel's most famous and most moving songs. I can't find a decent translation on the web, though I've heard some English versions. Here's my rather literal translation of the first and last verse to give an idea of what it's about:

Sure, there are wars in Ireland

And peoples without music

Sure, there's a lack of tenderness

And there's no more America

Sure, money has no smell

Or not that reaches your nose

Sure, people trample on the fowers

But - to see a friend in tears! (is worst of all)
