The song is credited to Hascall & Bradbury on the recording on the Old And In The Way CD "High Lonesome Sound": they wrote the hymn My Latest Sun Is Sinking Fast on which the song is based. The Stanley Brothers and other bluegrass recordings often credit it as "traditional."

My Grandpa Jesse Hamilton plucked around on the banjo and sang for us kids. Angel Band was his favorite tune. It would always be the first tune he played, and he would always end our entertainment session with it as well. Here is a video which kind of captures the old feel of the gospel tune.
