What is a house concert?
Generally speaking, a house concert is a small-scale musical performance held at someone's house, and attended by friends and neighbors. On July 31, 2004, WWR held its first house concert at the still-being-constructed Wheat Hole. Whole Wheat Radio's house concerts are informal, friendly and unpretentious ... and provide an excellent opportunity to see and chat with many nationally recognized acoustic performers in an intimate setting. Here are pages and pages of photos from previous house concerts all the way back to the beginning!
About WWR house concerts
A WWR House Concert is a chance to experience live music in a warm and intimate environment. It's when someone opens their home and invites you into their living room to share in a performance by one of their favorite musicians. It's a chance to meet the performers and interact with them informally.
If you can't attend any of our house concerts in person, you can always listen to them live on the webcast! Just click the "Listen" links over there on the left-hand menu to tune in.
Financial stuff
A House Concert is also a great social evening with friends and neighbors. These concerts, like Whole Wheat Radio, are not for profit. (Although we do wish to financially support the artists who perform here!) They are simply an extension of our enthusiasm for great music.
We ask everyone to make at least a $10 donation for the performer. We are not paying the artists directly, most of whom will have paid to get to Talkeetna out of their own pocket. Although we won't turn away anyone who can't make a donation, part of our goal is to educate audiences about the realities of making a living as an independent traveling musician.
One of the best ways to make a strong personal statement about paying artists a fair wage (without record companies taking the lion's share) is to support artists by a direct donation and / or buying CDs directly from them off the stage. If you can afford more than $10, we encourage you to let generosity be your guide. Webcast listeners will also be able to make Paypal tip-jar donations, 100% of which will go directly to the performer (minus the standard 3% Paypal processing fee).

- If you want to save Flash Videos (.flv files), click on the "F" icon. You will be taken to a page where the full filename (something.flv) is listed. For example, 2008-12-28_17-20-24~2741.flv That is the original filename. Point to it, right-mouse click and "Save As..." on your computer. You will need a program that can play Flash videos - there are many of them, and your computer probably already can play them.
