Lori B is in her second incarnation as a singer-songwriter. Born on the tail winds of Hurricane Hazel, she began writing songs on the piano at the age of 14. She kept her music a secret through young adulthood and, after college, Lori B fell musically silent for 15 years. During that time, she drove a tractor-trailer back and forth across America, delivering furniture and household goods. She worked in the movie business, in Hollywood and New York, doing post-production, location scouting, and then production management. Finally, uncomfortable with the excesses and lack of substance in the big budget film world, she took a hard left turn and enrolled in Columbia University's social work graduate program. Concurrently, Lori B did a three year certification in Rubenfeld Synergy, an elegant mind-body therapeutic integration. After these studies, she practiced as a psychotherapist in New York City, specializing in work with women with body image issues and eating disorders.

At age 36, Lori B began dancing again (abandoned, along with the music, in her early twenties). Exposure to an amazing form called Contact Improvisation created a profound physical and emotional homecoming. After several years of immersion, Lori B began teaching and performing movement improvisation in America and abroad. She has danced extensively in groups of people with and without physical disabilities.

In 1992, Lori B began writing and singing again, and the following year she moved to the Bay Area. Eventually fellow musicians lured her out of the closet and into the recording studio. In spring of 1996, Lori B released Lucky Seven, a six-song audio cassette. In December of that same year, she debuted as a solo performing singer-songwriter. Response from audiences, other musicians, and disk jockeys has been striking.

Lori B's music is eccentric, contemporary, bred-in-the-bone folk. A visionary of the heart with a bittersweet sting, the songs are spare and poetic, like simple golden threads. Lori B's music is unapologetically emotional and radically intimate. Her dance-theatre work gives the live music performance an unexpected edge. She has twice recorded for Fast Folk (NYC), and recently released her debut full-length album, Hurricane Child..
